In the last few days, I moved the blog over from the Perl-based blogging software blosxom, for which I had written various plugins to add missing functionality, to the Python-based static site generator pelican.
The decision was mainly motivated by the fact that I do most of my software development in Python these days rather than in Perl and that there are plenty of high-quality themes and plugins available for pelican. Most of the themes are compatible with current state-of-the-art web design practices and scale well to mobile devices. That was not the case for the previous blog design, which I developed myself mostly from scratch.
The actual blog content required very little adaptation and is still nearly plain text. The setup of pelican, including the creation of a python virtual environment, went incredibly smoothly.
Enjoy the new design!
